How did the
first bobtail appear in your life? Why was it exactly a bobtail?
Please tell us a little about your first dogs.
I was living in Holland at the time, this was in 1975, a friend
of mine from England, send me a photo of his dog, and this was an
OES. I fell in love with that picture and wanted one of those dogs
too. He brought me in contact with his breeder and there I bought
my first OES as a puppy who became later: CH. Searwell Duchess
Lady Day. My second one came also from the same breeder, was her
hips did not clear and she stayed just as a pet.
Why is your
kennel called just so? How did you choose the name for it?
My breeder from England became a very good friend and she died
at the age of 44, she always liked the name BIZZEEBOOTS and so it
happened I choose that name in her honor.
Where do your
dogs live?
My dogs live in the house with us.
Do you have
assistants in the kennel? What is their task?
I do not have a kennel and no assistant, I do everything
myself.
What kind of
breeding dogs, in your opinion, should be:
- a male,
- a bitch.
Both Male and Female should be of the highest quality with
healthy hips, eyes, etc.
What do you
emphasize in the breeding?
My goal in breeding is to keep the type of OES I have, square,
short backed and powerful, but most important temperament and
health.
Was there a
litter which remained in your heart and which you are especially
proud of?
I am really proud of all my litters, but to name a special one:
a litter by CH. Bizzeeboots Chelsea Queen and CH Bizzeeboots
Invisible Touch, out of which came
|
CH. Bizzeeboots Lean on Me |

CH. Bizzeeboots Lucy in the
Sky |
How important
is the eye pigment?
Eye pigment is nice, but not too important to me.
Are the
champion's titles obligatory for dogs' breeding?
No champion titles are not important for breeding, often the
best dogs are never shown.
What do you do
with a dog which gets too old for breeding?
They stay here and live a luxury life as couch potatoes and
being spoiled.
What is the
happiest moment in your life concerning bobtail?
There are many happiest moments: to be surrounded by them,
every puppy being born, every show win, the day that I received an
invitation to Judge in Australia.
Did you
experience misfortunes and how did you avoid them?
I think every breeder experiences misfortunes in their
breeding, this is only normal, if severe problems occur, I take
the parents out of my breeding program.
What criteria
do you use to choose the best puppy in the litter?
The first look is, when they are born and still wet, than you
can see angulation, this goes away as soon as they are dry. I do
my first pick, looking at angles, head and shortness of body. In
general that is the puppy that will stay in the end. I also think
attitude is very important, that particular puppy who shows
him/her self off, I keep in mind as attitude is an important part
in a showdog. A dog who hates the showring will never be a great
Champion. However he/she might be the best structured puppy in the
litter and would use that dog for breeding purposes.
What forage do
you feed your puppies and adult dogs with? Do you give them
additional forage and what kind of?
I feed dry kibble: Nature’s Recipe Lamb and Rice, I ad Vit. C
and brewers yeast with garlic.
Do you do make
selection among the future owners of the puppies from your kennel?
Yes I do, I observe the puppies and the potential new owners
and make sure characters fit together.
What can be a
reason to refuse to sell a puppy to a particular person?
If I get the impression that the dog would have to live out
doors, or when a family has multiple very small children, if
people have multiple breeds, I would be afraid that they might be
a puppy mill.
The dog
breeding for you is:
- your life,
- a hobby,
- an art
- a way to earn you living?
I guess you can say it is my life, hobby and an art in a way,
but not a way to earn my living.
Could you give
a piece of advice to a beginner breeders?
READ, READ and read more, study the breed, go to dogshows,
speak with other breeders and study pedigrees.
Be prepared, breeding is bitter sweet, this means that many things
can go wrong.
What is you
opinion about what had happened to the breed in the World and your
country for the last 15 years?
In our country (USA) the breed is improving, coats are getting
better, in European countries there is now a tail docking ban.
Breed clubs.
Are they necessary in your country? Why?
They are very necessary, a communication between breeders and
owners, trying to safe our breed, solving problems and educating
the public. We have several OES breed clubs here apart from our
National Club.
I started an OES club here in Florida in 2000, we have had one
match so far and our group is growing.
What is an
exhibition for you?
A dogshow for me is a place to meet fellow exhibitors, to show
off my dogs, or judge, it is also a great part of my social life.
Beginning from
what age should a dog start being prepared for a show-career? What
is the best way to do it.
It can never be too early as you do with children. I have my
babies on the table as soon as they can stand on their four legs.
They are groomed and made to stand still, but very playfully as to
teach them how much fun this is.
What of your
dogs did perform most successfully at the exhibitions?
They have many dogs who have performed successfully in the
showring, but to name a few special ones: CH. Bizzeeboots
Earthshaker in Holland, Dutch and International Champion. Here in
the USA there was:
|

Willy, Am/Can Ch. Bizzeeboots
Invisible Touch, he was a great Showdog, Ch. Bizzeeboots Lean
on Me and at present |

CH. Bizzeeboots Rolling
Thunder, who has been in the “Top twenty” for the past 3
years. |
What is your
attitude toward professional handling? Do you use services of
professional handlers?
I have nothing against professional handlers, some people are
not able to show the best of their dog, I never use professional
handlers.
Please let us
know your attitude to usage of lacquers during the dog's
preparation for an exhibition?
I personally do not have a problem with this, nor with all the
powder, scissoring, shaping etc. Dogshows are also a beauty
contests and as long hair spray is being moderately used and not
overdone, that when a dog moves, the hair does not.
|
How for a
long time you became the judge on OES?
I presume you mean when I became a judge, I have been
liscenced to judge OES since December of 1999.
You
remember first ring OES?
Oh yes I do remember, I was so nervous to judge for the
first time with an AKC Rep. Watching, I messed up my judges
book, forgot to give ribbons to my winners, but had a lot of
fun, as all exhibitors were friends of mine, which of course
was a tremendous pressure.
The dog has
left in a ring. What do you look over first of all?
I will look at Type first. |
|
Witch did
modern bobtail have unwanted pattern in your opinion? Did they
losed somthing impotences? And what did they lose in case of
affirmative replay?
To me the OES is getting larger and larger, it takes away from
what the standard states: medium sized dog, able to work. High on
leg with a short body is not square, I also see backs that are too
long. I strongly advise breeders, to look at this, also the
shoulders are getting to wide .Breeder beware!!!
Please rank the
following traits of an OES:
- head,
- teeth,
- neck,
- breast,
- limbs,
- body,
- hair,
- motion,
- behaviour,
- back.
Most important is overall structure, legs, chest, body, back
falls under one item.
Motion, head, legs, chest, body, back, coat, behavior, teeth.
What could you
say about the tails posture?
I cannot say too much about the tail set and the way they carry
tails, this is all too new, I can answer that after I have judged
OES with Tails.
What are the
first things that draw your attention while judging OES? What are
the OES faults that might be forgiven or overlooked and which ones
are considered more severe?
The first thing I notice the way the OES come into the ring.
Faults that might be forgiving in my opinion are teeth, as long as
there is no extremes. It also depends on in which country I will
be judging as what there rules are. I consider an overshot mouth,
narrow under jaw, domed and narrow head and cow hocked rears, more
severe.
What do you
think about unpractised handling of bobtail in the ring?
I can forgive exhibitors who do not have experience showing a
dog, as the dog is being judged and not the exhibitor, provided
they have control over the dog, so it can be judged.
What are the
most frequent mistakes appearing at the bobtail demonstrations?
DOGS ARE MOVED TOO FAST, the OES is not a racing breed, they
should be moved at a moderate speed.
How much
bobtails grooming is influence on estimation in the ring?
This is of no importance as long as the dogs are clean, and
have no tangles. I will find the best dog no matter what.
Is a hair-cut
permissible for an exhibition dog?
The standards states NO, but it is done and it depends the
country where I am judging, what their rules are.
Do you think an
expert is influenced by the renown of the dog's owner or handler?
NO this should not be, as a judge has to judge dogs. I do not
care who is handling. The best dog should win.
Whether is in
the standard OES the moments, which you would like to change or to
make by more clear?
The Standard is fine the way it is, here in the USA we still
have the old standard, I would like to see the FCI standard
changed to its previous standard, allowing white in the body(which
is not my favorite, but many dogs with flashes are superior dogs
and should be allowed to being shown and to breed with).
What should an
ideal bobtail be?
Square, with powerful head and effortless movement, covering a
minimum of ground with minimum amount of steps.
Could you give
a dog's name which passes well an ideal bobtail?
To me that would be, the late CH Baroness of Duroya.
What future of
breed do you seeing? What can breeders, dog owners and experts
make in common so that future of breed will be ideal?
I think that breeders are on the right track, trying to improve
the breed, breed type to type, and judges: know the breed and do
the right thing, no matter who handles the dog.
Would you like
to wish something to the Russian OES owners?
I wish for the Russian OES owners, to continue improving the
breed, you are on the right track, study the breed worldwide,
which is easy now, with internet access. Breeders, do not run to
breed to the most winning dog as that dog might not suit your
bitch .Stud dog owners do not breed to every bitch as again,
certain combinations just do not fit. No dog is perfect, look for
faults in dog and bitch, try to correct this, so do not breed a
fault to a dog with the same fault. Study your pedigrees and try
to find out which dog and bitch produced what.
I whish you all good luck and maybe one day I will be there.
