How did the first OES appear in your life? Why was it specifically an OES? Please tell us a little about your first dogs.
I and my wife acquired our first OES as a puppy bitch in 1987. I chose this breed because of my wife had a longing for OES.
Why is your kennel so named? How did you choose the name for it?
Call name of our first OES is Rally. She is a very good member of our family. We wanted to maintain Rally's blood and to improve our breed based on Rally as
eternity as we can. So we named our kennel Rally Road. We are very happy to walk on the Road with fine dogs and friends for realizing ideal our breed..
Dog breeding for you is:
- your life;
- a hobby;
- an art;
- a way to earn you living?
Dog breeding is a hobby for us. The breeding is one of the important things to realize our ideal according to our vision and is a way that dreams come true.
What do you emphasize in your breeding?
Temperament and Soundness are of the utmost important in the breeding. The anhmals to be used for the breeding should represent the Type that we want.
Was there a litter which has remained in your heart and of which you are especially proud?
Our E-litter from where we got two INT. Champions Rally Road JP Exciting Laurel and Rally Road JP Exciting Mallow.
Training with INT CH Rally Road JP Exiting Laurel at 6 mos.
Are Champion titles obligatory when breeding dogs?
The champion's titles are not always necessary for dog's breeding if the dogs have excellent potential backed with pedigree.
What was the happiest moment in your life concerning OES?
It is every day. OES bring us relaxation, friends, couple's conversations,......,and dreams
Did you experience misfortunes and how did you avoid them (in breeding)?
We avoid them by examining pedigrees and observing temperament, soundness and movement of the dogs.
What criteria do you use to choose the best puppy in the litter?
Our criteria are that the puppy possessed the best strong structure, attractive movement and good reaction. We feel one of the most important time is at birth to grade
the puppies. From at that time to 7 weeks we observe the puppies as long as we can. We watch how their structures and proportions, how they use themselves and how
their personalities. Even this manner is not one hundred percent accurate in selecting puppies at this age. Which one is the best in the litter may take years to determine.
Could you give a piece of advice to a beginner breeder?
We think good breeders whether beginner or expert have interest in the puppies they breed for realizing their ideal. Breeders have to have responsibility for new owners of
the puppies to have pleasure life with the dog. So the beginners especially have to know about breed, soundness and pedigree of their own dogs.
What is your opinion about what has happened to the breed in the world and in your country during the last 15 years?
We think the last 15 years has witnessed great progress in the art of expressing the beauty of OES in the world, especially in the US. OES in Japan have been improved the
quality by the breeders loving our breed and imported high potential dogs from foreign countries. But the number of OES annual registration is decreasing. 15 years ago, the
number was about 1500 and is about 250 now. We think the mutual cooperation among the breeders is getting still more important.
What is an exhibition for you?
It is an opportunity to express the beauty and the soundness of our dog.
Beginning from what age should a dog start being prepared for a show-career? What is the best way to do it?
We think initial training should be started ideally 6 weeks. If you have a mind to do it, you can train a dog no matter what age. We think the best way is "Don't force".
What of your dogs did perform most successfully at the exhibitions?
Winning for the first time fourth Best of Group at 2002 FCI Asian International dog show and Best in Show at championship show with INT/JKC CH Rally Road JP Exciting Laurel.
What is your attitude toward professional handling?
We can have more a lot of time and pleasure for our own dogs than professional handler. Owner handler have more chance to get the ideal OES and to find beauty in own
dogs than professional handler. So owner handler have many chances to win against professional handler. But we can often find some hints about how to express the beauty
of the dog from some of the top professional handler.
What could you say about the tails?
We prefer OES to be docked the tail as it is traditional.
Do you think an expert is influenced by the renown of the dog's owner or handler?
It depends on the judges respectively. Sometimes we are hurt and sometimes we are encouraged by their judgment and suggestions.
Whether is in the standard OES the moments, which you would like to change or to make by more clear?
The OES standard of Japan Kennel Club (JKC) conform to that of American Kennel Club (AKC). The standard is much better since the OES standard of AKC was
revised in 1990. We feel the current OES standard is explicit enough.
What should an ideal OES be?
The ideal OES should be good one of the family having sound mind and body. On that basis, the ideal OES should be beautiful balanced and square dog with substance
and topline according to the standard.
Would you like to wish something to the OES-lovers?
We would like to promote mutual understanding among the peoples of the world through OES. We wish for world peace!!!

With Rally.
